Some of the research studies being done regarding canine megaesophagus:

Genetic Study of Canine Acquired Myasthenia Gravis (MG):
This study is a collaborative effort between the UC Davis Genetics Laboratory, the UC Davis Neurology/Neurosurgery Service, and the Comparative Neuromuscular Laboratory (CNL) at the University of California San Diego.
Further info may be obtained from UC Davis’ website:http://vetneuromuscular.ucsd.edu/cases/2008/Aug08.html
Your help is needed in collecting samples.
Free shipping of specimens for this study is now available.
As always, donations are accepted by UC-Davis & The Comparative Neuromuscular Laboratory to further veterinary research. Contact Dr. Vernau at: kmvernau@ucdavis.edu or themusclelab@ucsd.edu

Genetic Study for Megaesophagus:
This research project is conducted by Clemson University. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
Congenital, Idiopathic Megaesophagus Clients ONLY. Primary focus is German Shepherd Dogs but all breeds are welcome at this time. Dogs MUST have been diagnosed at a young age. (Note: Dogs with acquired Megaesophagus may not participate in this study.)
Contact Dr. Leigh Ann Clark at lclark4@clemson.edu https://clemsoncaninegenetics.com/drleighanneclark.htm
Dr. Clark will mail you a kit to complete a cheek swab of your dog. You will need to mail the swab back, per instructions, to Dr. Clark at your expense. (Note: You will need to pay the postage to return the sample, approximately 2-3 stamps.)
The goal of the research is to identify the genetic basis for Megaesophagus so that a genetic test can be developed to allow for the identification of dogs that are capable of producing mega pups prior to breeding.
As always, donations are accepted by Clemson University to further veterinary research. Contact Dr. Clark at the above email address.
